Can I Transfer My Warranty If I Sell My Home?
Yes! Your warranty can be transferred one time to the next homeowner. To ensure the coverage is transferred, the new owner simply needs to notify GAF in writing within one year of the property transfer. If you sell your home within the first 20 years after installation, the new owner will receive the exact same coverage that you had.
How do I file a warranty claim if I notice a problem?
What Does The “Signature Pledge Advantage” Actually Do?
Standard manufacturer warranties eventually become “prorated,” meaning they pay out less money for a claim as your roof ages. With the Signature Pledge Advantage, Best Choice Roofing steps in after GAF’s non-prorated period ends. We pay the difference out of our own pocket through the 50th year of your roof’s life, ensuring your coverage doesn’t lose value over time.
Does This Warranty Cover Hail Damage?
While the Signature Pledge includes premium Class 3 or Class 4 impact-rated shingles that are highly resistant to weather, this limited warranty covers manufacturing defects and installation errors. It does not cover “acts of nature,” such as hail, fire, or falling objects. Damage from severe weather is typically covered by your standard homeowner’s insurance policy rather than a roofing warranty.
What’s The Difference Between Manufacturer, Labor, And Workmanship Coverage?
- Manufacturer Defect Coverage: This protects you if the physical materials themselves (like the shingles, ridge caps, or flashing) fail prematurely due to a flaw in how they were made at the factory.
- Labor Coverage: If a defective product needs to be replaced, this covers the actual cost of the workers’ time to tear off and dispose of the faulty materials to repair your roof.
- Workmanship (Misapplication) Coverage: This protects you against human error during the installation. If the roof fails because the products were installed incorrectly by the crew, this coverage ensures Best Choice Roofing or GAF will step in to make the necessary repairs.
What Does Non-prorated Mean?
“Non-prorated” means your coverage retains its full, 100% value during that specific time period. Once a warranty period becomes prorated, the amount the manufacturer pays out for a claim is reduced based on how long the roof has been installed—reflecting the amount of “use” you’ve already gotten out of the products.
For example, with the Signature Pledge’s 50-year non-prorated period, a valid claim in year 40 would be covered at the same full replacement or repair value as a claim in year 2.
What Do I Need To Do To Keep The Warranty Valid?
- Pay in Full: Your warranty will not take effect until Best Choice Roofing has been paid in full for the installation.
- Ensure Registration: The warranty must be officially registered to you. Best Choice Roofing typically handles this, but if you haven’t received your warranty from GAF within 60 days of installation, you should follow up with them or email CCP@GAF.COM.
- Report Issues Promptly: If you notice a problem, you must report the claim to GAF within 30 days.
- Wait for Approval: Do not repair or replace the products before notifying GAF and allowing them to evaluate the claim; doing so could result in a denied claim. If emergency repairs are needed before the claim is resolved, you must provide GAF with reasonable notice first.
- Follow Transfer Rules: If you sell your home, the new owner must notify GAF in writing within one year of the property transfer to keep the warranty active.
